Following the first meeting over the Hubei higher education fair in Thailand last May, a delegation headed by Mr. Dai Chao, director of the International Exchange Office, and Dr. Adam Goh, visiting professor of the Graduate Business School, from Assumption University, Thailand, visited Hubei University of Technology (HBUT) for the purposes of in-depth discussion on potential collaboration, June 7, 2012. HBUT International Office Director Terry Ye and Deputy-director Amy Long received the guests.
Over the reception meeting, HBUT and Assumption University negotiated the details of joint education program, student and faculty members exchange program, and Chinese teacher training program, some of which would be initiated in June, and reached a Memorandum of Understanding, laying the framework of follow-up collaborative programs. Assumption University is the first official Thailand interscholastic partner of HBUT and is highly significant for promoting HBUT’s collaboration with Southeast Asian higher education institutions.
Starting from 2012, HBUT will work as a Chinese language teacher training centre, directly responsible for preparing qualified Chinese language teachers for Assumption University as well as its affiliated 13 middle schools. Hopefully, in 2013, HBUT and Assumption University will launch a joint top-up education program, offering a platform to diploma students who seek postgraduate education opportunities. Meanwhile, Assumption University will offer free tour and study to some HBUT students interested in visiting Thailand, and HBUT will provide Assumption University students majoring in Commercial Chinese with a short-term exchange program that is based upon credit recognition.
