The undergraduate joint education program in the field of art and design between Hubei University of Technology (HBUT) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) has just been accredited by the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China, which is a new milestone marking a giant leap of the development of international collaborative programs at HBUT.
Students to be enrolled into the HBUT-UWM program will spend the initial three years at HBUT taking courses in the art and design subject area according to the previously jointly designed curriculum, throughout which UWM will send faculty members each academic year to undertake part of the teaching assignment. Those who are qualified for the academic and English language requirements stipulated by UWM can be transferred to the USA to complete the fourth year and will be conferred Bachelor’s degrees by both HBUT and UWM based on credit recognition upon successful completion of all the mandatory courses. Students will have opportunities to apply for postgraduate study at UWM when they graduate. If the students fail the requirements of transferring to UWM or they are not intended to transfer, they may finish the fourth year study at HBUT and be conferred the HBUT Bachelor’s degree when they pass all the HBUT evaluations.
According to the collaborative agreement, HBUT and UWM will exploit both their strengths and features in art and design field and promote further in-depth cooperation for their mutual benefit including student and faculty member exchange program, academic exchange, teaching and research collaboration etc.
The program is to enroll a maximum number of 120 students. The annual tuition fee at HBUT is 24,000 RMB per student. The estimated tuition fee and living expenses at UWM is around 200,000 RMB per year. HBUT is about to select excellent freshmen majoring in art and design who are intended to sign up for this program in September, 2012.
